TATA confirms launching of new sedan challenging Honda City

After facing the worst 2019-year, in the year 2020 tata motors are actively coming in news for they many launches of the car like Altroz Hatchback, BS6 version Tiago, Nexon compact SUV, the announcement of the TATA HBX MICRO SUV. Only 3 months have passed and tata is aggressively launching new cars and giving tough coemption to their rivals. TATA again came in the spotlight with the announcement of the new premium sedan to compete directly with India’s favourite Honda City. Car is in development stage and Tata calls it by the name ‘Peregrine’. According to the sources, this car is based on the ALFA platform on which Altroz Hatchback and Tata HBX Micro SUV is built. The ALFA architecture developed by the manufacturer is very flexible to design the car with greater length and long wheelbase. Surprisingly, this will be the first premium sedan made by the tata group.
During the interview with Mr Rajendra Petkar, CTO of tata motors, he said, “Who thought of Tata Motors when it came to SUVs like the Nexon? I think we have come a long way in terms of the brand and both in terms of the hatch and in terms of the SUVs we are there. The sedan is just a natural off-shoot of the architecture that you have. We have no doubt about the capability and living up to the brand.”
Talking about the car, not a single pic has been shown, but according to the sources it is believed that this car will be designed as per the TATA’s 2.0 IMPACT Philosophy. The design of the car is highly inspired from Altroz and Tata’s E-Vision Concept which was showcased in 2018 Geneva motor show. However, keeping in the mind, the rear end of the E-Vision concept, we still think the rear end will be similar to Tigor. The notchback design given to Tata Tigor will surely give sportier look to some extent.
Speaking about the front, the extended Altroz grille will be used with sleek headlamps. The lower variant may come with standard 1.2L engine and the top model 1.2L turbo-petrol engine from Nexon and could be also sporting Tata’s 1.5L turbo-petrol engine as it is still in development.
If we discuss about the fact than the Tata’s last success in the sedan was Indigo CS. As Tata is offering the competition to the models which are currently dominating the Indian premium sedan market than they need to come with some revolutionary product.
As the car is in the development stage, we can expect to launch by the end of the year 2021 or in the beginning phase of the year 2022.
