Feeling lazy
to climb a mountain over a weekend and still want to enjoy the view from the top?
Well, your wait is over as Land Rover has launched the all-new Land Rover
Defender the upgrade of 1950s Classic Defender. Believe me, this car is very
capable of climbing a mountain, yes, a real mountain and all credit go to skilled
designers and engineers of Land Rover who was able to give the required
off-roading ability to climb without compromising nothing. The carmaker has given
the same old school look of Classic 1950 Defender with a boxy design and
present-day technology. So, the question arises will new 2020 Defender can carry
the pride of classic 1950 Defender? Let’s find out.
EXTERIOR
Defender comes in 2 versions i.e. 90 three-door and
110 passenger version. The 110 form comes in slightly longer wheelbase than 90
form. The car has a smooth curve unlike the flat-sided which used to come in old
SUVs in front too and gives muscular look to the car in front. The whole body
of the car is strong and the suspension principle is based on Land Rover
Discovery. The rear end is as same as other off-roading SUV’s with the attached spare
wheel so nothing new is done on rear end except lightings. The front is equipped
with round matrix LED lights under the squarish glass outside which illuminates
close to daylights and high beam visibility avoids dazzling oncoming vehicles.
There is a safari type window in the back seat to light up the car and during the safari, you can see the animals which are in the tree.
Car is built on
a platform called D7X to which Land Rover stats that it makes 3 times tougher
than their rivals. Defender car can climb the mountain up to 47degree angle. Not
only the mountain but also this car is quite capable of surviving in meter water
for over an hour. Impressive, right? Land Rover offers more than 170 types of
accessories with a car most by any of the carmaker. The box on the side of the
car is capable of carrying 17kgs which means you can keep the things you won’t
need inside the cabin.
INTERIOR
The Defender has a lot of premium standard features on
the dashboard and interesting thing to note about the car is that it comes with
100mb ethernet which updates all the software overnight and reactivates as soon
as you start your car on a blissful morning. Pivi pro, the infotainment system
(25.4cm) which is inspired by our smartphones is developed by the Land Rover
which is easy to use and provides lots of important information in just one
glance. Defender has Interactive
Driver’s Display (31.24cm) which includes, full-sized maps, speedometer, call
notifications and many more. The car even has a head-up display which also shows much
useful info. on the widescreen and it also keeps us up to date with off-road
information example incline angle etc.
Talking about the inside, the car has the optional central front seat which tallies the count of total 3 seats in front low. Unlike the Jeep, the cabin has lots of space with super legroom. Thanks to 3D Surround Camera Systems you can actually see the vehicle’s underside during off-roading which prevents the driver to go outside and check frequently and generates the confidence into the driver to ride the car through any circumstances. The defender has a Terrain Response System which adjusts the car very efficiently to throttle responses.

Need to go urgently and the phone is not charged? No need
to worry the car has the option of wireless charging and USB ports and in all row.
Interestingly the car has more than 15 charging points. Speaking of innovative technology,
the carmaker allows you to unlock your car with a smartwatch. Luxurious off-road
car is equipped with Meridian Surround Sound System includes 14 speakers and a
dual-channel subwoofer. Premium cabin lightings come with 10 options so you
can light up the cabin according to your mood. The defender has various driving
assistance features available through blind spot Assist, Driver assist and
awesome 3D surround camera. It wasn’t an easy task to fit all this cool
technology but Land Rover nailed it.
ENGINE AND POWERTRAIN
The car will come in Diesel, Petrol and hybrid-petrol
version. 2.0L Turbo-Diesel engine will come in D200 form which will generate
197bhp and in D240 form which produces 236bhp. About the 2.0L Turbo Petrol
engine, the P-300 will develop the 296bhp and hybrid 6-cylinder 3L petrol engine
P-400 will shoot the power of 395bhp. The P-400 engine combustion will come
with 48V hybrid system. The car will come in eight-speed ZF automatic all-wheel
drive. During the launch the car will come in 6 models; the base, S, SE, HSE,
the First Edition and the Defender X.
VERDICTS
Lastly, it is safe to call this 4x4 along with the SUV
tag. Apart from off-roaders, campers the company has also tried to impress the
people who want cars for daily use or wants a family car or simply who don’t
like off-roading much, and the car got quite a success in winning the heart of
the audience. Because not only off-roading but this car gives smooth and lovely
drive on-road and traffic areas, unlike their rival cars. Thanks to 3D surround
cameras the car is quite easy to park even though the car weighs more than
2300kg kerb weight.
The carmaker has brilliantly placed the rear-view camera on the roof of the car, the motive behind this is to provide clear
vision, unlike the traditional rear-view mirrors which are blocked by seats and
passengers. Leather seats of this car are very durable. Instead of plastic, they
have used durable material rubber everywhere. This material rubber helps to
keep the things perfectly where they were placed during off-roading. Grab
handle is provided as a support to the front rider during extreme off-road
activities. The car has sensors for water which accurately shows the depth and
alerts the driver if the water is more. The third row is very small because there is no
legroom. Seats are strictly for children and no adult can sit there in any circumstances;
the only good thing is that the safari window is long compare to the middle seat. In
conclusion, this car is all in one package because it has something for
everything and it’s hard to think a reason to dislike this car.
2020 Defender is ready to climb the actual mountain,
are you ready?
